How to Find Your KN95 Mask Size

Wearing a KN95 mask that doesn't fit correctly is like wearing a seatbelt that isn't buckled. The filtration material may be rated at β‰₯99% efficiency, but if there are gaps around your nose, cheeks, or chin, unfiltered air bypasses the mask entirely. The right size isn't just about comfort β€” it's the difference between real protection and a false sense of security.

At Vital Supply, we offer KN95 masks in 6 sizes β€” XL, Large, Medium, Small, XS, and Kids β€” so every person in your household, team, or organization can get a proper, protective seal.

Why KN95 Mask Fit Matters

KN95 masks are designed to filter β‰₯99% of airborne particles when worn correctly. "Correctly" means the mask forms a complete seal around your face with no gaps. Even a small gap at the nose bridge or along the cheek can dramatically reduce the effective filtration you receive.

Most people assume one size fits all β€” but adult faces vary significantly in length, width, and shape. A mask that fits a 6-foot adult male will likely gap on a petite adult woman or a teenager. That's why size selection is the most important step before you buy.

How to Measure Your Face for a KN95 Mask

You'll need a soft measuring tape or a piece of string and a ruler. Take two measurements:

  1. Face length: Measure from the bridge of your nose (just below the eyes) to the bottom of your chin.
  2. Face width: Measure across the widest part of your face, typically cheekbone to cheekbone.

Use both measurements together to find your best size in the chart below.

KN95 Mask Size Chart

Size Best For Typical Face Length
XL Larger adult faces, tall face shape 5.5" (14 cm) and above
Large Standard adult fit, most adult men 5.0" – 5.5" (12.7 – 14 cm)
Medium Smaller adults, larger teens 4.5" – 5.0" (11.4 – 12.7 cm)
Small Petite adults, teens 4.0" – 4.5" (10.2 – 11.4 cm)
XS Very small adult faces, older children 3.5" – 4.0" (8.9 – 10.2 cm)
Kids Children ages 5–12 (approx.) Under 3.5" (under 8.9 cm)

Note: These are general guidelines. Face shape varies, so if you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort or sizing down for a tighter seal.

How to Do a Quick Fit Check

Once your mask arrives, do a simple fit check before wearing it in a high-risk environment:

  1. Put on the mask and mold the nose wire firmly to the bridge of your nose.
  2. Cup both hands over the mask and exhale sharply. You should feel air coming through the mask material β€” not escaping around the edges.
  3. Inhale sharply. The mask should pull slightly inward toward your face. If it collapses completely or gaps at the sides, try a smaller size.

If you feel air leaking around the edges, the mask is too large. If the mask feels uncomfortably tight or doesn't sit flat against your face, try a larger size.
